July 4th Picnic in review
A group of San Diego Anglicans converged on Highland Park in the Carmel Mountain Ranch area on July 4th for a multi-church picnic. The grounds were covered with several canopies, most notably the extra-large one from Resurrection which took at least a dozen hysterically-laughing people to set up, but was worth it in the end! There was a Jumper for the "kids" which included, at various times during the afternoon, a gaggle of school-age girls (and one boy), some teenagers practicing their flips, a couple of die-hard "adults" who refuse to grow up, and one "senior" who wanted to check off a box on his "Bucket List". There were also some organized games - a 3-legged race and a water balloon toss which left several participants on the damp side. Other games involved foam pool noodles and hula hoops, and were very entertaining to watch from the sidelines. While it was billed as a "bring your own food" picnic there were plenty of goodies being passed from canopy to canopy as people migrated around chatting and catching up with each other. A number of 4-legged Anglicans were also in attendance and provided some background music when they got too close to each other! Under a sunny, blue sky we celebrated the birthday of this great country with food, family and friends. A perfect way to spend the day!
