Some Rules You Can Break. Dio. L.A. Authorizes Same Sex Blessings

PLEASE, I'm begging.  Some orthodox bishop needs to cross the dio. L.A. border first thing Monday morning and perform at least one, widely reported, well-documented episcopal act as soon as possible (any conservatives left in dio L.A. wanna get their kid confirmed, like tomorrow?).

This Smells Funny...

Anybody else find this story a little bit over-anxious or odd in some other way? 

We're quite familiar with Bishop Mathes' pattern of prematurity and over-enthusiasm when it comes to press releases flattering to him, and one is wise to take anything reported on Episcopal Life Online with a grain of salt, but then again, maybe this is the real deal.

Apparently, Bishop MacBurney and his detractors have struck some kind of deal.  Great if so, but I'll gathering a few more facts before I claim to understand exactly what has transpired here.  (read more...)

Bishop Mathes from Lambeth: How Not To Dialogue.

Bishop Mathes has always fancied himself the "bridge builder" and jedi master of dialogue.  Those of us who have seen him at his worst and/or are currently being sued for our church properties know that concepts like "dialogue," "mediation," and "negotiation" are really not his strong suite.

Nevertheless, the image needs to be maintained.  At all costs, if necessary.  That is why Bishop Mathes took the only thing like true indaba he'll ever have between himself and Archbishop Venables (the most interesting bishop in the world, but I'll come back to that later) and totally bogartted it.  (read more...)
