Some Rules You Can Break. Dio. L.A. Authorizes Same Sex Blessings

PLEASE, I'm begging.  Some orthodox bishop needs to cross the dio. L.A. border first thing Monday morning and perform at least one, widely reported, well-documented episcopal act as soon as possible (any conservatives left in dio L.A. wanna get their kid confirmed, like tomorrow?).

Diocese Of Los Angeles Rejects B033 And Announces Liturgy For Same Sex Blessings

As found on: http://www.standfirminfaith.com/index.php/site/article/18461/

In its 113th Annual Diocesan Convention today, the Episcopal Diocese of Los Angeles joined seven other dioceses in passing a resolution asking the 2009 General Convention of the Episcopal Church to reject the de facto moratorium on the election of gay or lesbian bishops by retracting the General Convention Resolution BO33. And in Bishop Jon Bruno's convention address yesterday, he announced a new diocesan policy on the Sacramental Blessing of Life-Long Covenants, which stated in part, "we believe the same blessing ceremony afforded to men and women should be afforded to same-sex couples" and included a liturgy for blessing approved for use in the Diocese of Los Angeles.

Let's return to that Windsor Report, shall we?

On public Rites of Blessing of same sex unions

From Anglican Communion Website: http://www.aco.org/windsor2004/section_d/p3.cfm

    • We believe that to proceed unilaterally with the authorisation of public Rites of Blessing for same sex unions at this time goes against the formally expressed opinions of the Instruments of Unity and therefore constitutes action in breach of the legitimate application of the Christian faith as the churches of the Anglican Communion have received it, and of bonds of affection in the life of the Communion, especially the principle of interdependence. For the sake of our common life, we call upon all bishops of the Anglican Communion to honour the Primates' Pastoral Letter of May 2003, by not proceeding to authorise public Rites of Blessing for same sex unions. The primates stated then:

“The question of public rites for the blessing of same sex unions is still a cause of potentially divisive controversy. The Archbishop of Canterbury spoke for us all when he said that it is through liturgy that we express what we believe, and that there is no theological consensus about same sex unions. Therefore, we as a body cannot support the authorisation of such rites.

This is distinct from the duty of pastoral care that is laid upon all Christians to respond with love and understanding to people of all sexual orientations. As recognised in the booklet True Union[101], it is necessary to maintain a breadth of private response to situations of individual pastoral care.”

    • While we recognise that the Episcopal Church (USA) has by action of Convention made provision for the development of public Rites of Blessing of same sex unions, the decision to authorise rests with diocesan bishops. Because of the serious repercussions in the Communion, we call for a moratorium on all such public Rites, and recommend that bishops who have authorised such rites in the United States and Canada be invited to express regret that the proper constraints of the bonds of affection were breached by such authorisation. Pending such expression of regret, we recommend that such bishops be invited to consider in all conscience whether they should withdraw themselves from representative functions in the Anglican Communion. We recommend that provinces take responsibility for endeavouring to ensure commitment on the part of their bishops to the common life of the Communion on this matter.

You see, folks, in The Episcopal Church somes rules is fer breakin' and somes rules is fer keepin'.

The hypocrisy here on the part of the institutionalists is profound.  Let it sink in for a while.

"we can now officially offer

"we can now officially offer equality in the blessings we offer couples in our congregations and that is a source of great hope and encouragement not only to the church but to the world." Yes - truly official. Officially apostate! Encouraging to the world? Absolutely. Encouraging to the church? Only the one that continues to drive a wedge between itself and the rest of the "official" global Anglican Communion. A blemish of shame on the true Church that has to explain such nonsense.

There is no reason to be

There is no reason to be surprised by LA's action. First, they have a commitment to LesBiTransGays and that transcends any General Convention Resolution, or even Canons or the Constitution. Second, they do not believe there will be any consequence for their actions. They don't care if half or more of the Anglican Communion separates, they are confident that ++Rowan will not discipline them in any way. So, if it feels good, do it!
