Ruling on Summary Judgement Expected today in Dio San Diego vs. St Annes and Holy Trinity

Prayer request:  A ruling is expected to be announced today here in San Diego (Friday, 6th) regarding a judge's decision granting or denying summary judgement in two joined property cases.  Plaintiffs are The Episcopal Church of the United States and the Episcopal Diocese of San Diego.

Congregations affected by this ruling are St. Anne's Anglican Church, Oceanside and Holy Trinity Parish, Ocean Beach (my church home), both located here in San Diego.  The decision will affect the ministries of at least 5 clergy and approximately 400 active parishioners.

A victory today (summary judgement dismissed) for the congregations means the cases proceed to trial court date in December of this year.  A loss (summary judgement granted) means cases closed without dispute, barring further appeal.

Be in prayer for the lawyers who will be in court today arguing for the congregations.  Following the California Supreme Court's ruling against St. James Newport Beach earlier this year, it promises be an uphill battle, whatever the actual merits of our case.

Followup announcement(s) expected this afternoon.

Update: No news.  As of

Update: No news.  As of 5:00PM Pacific time, I haven't heard any decision announced following today's arguments by lawyers from both sides.  I understand the judge has opted for more time before entering his decision.  How much more time is unclear.  Could be hours or weeks.  TBD.  From a certain point of view, this could be construed as favorable, but it's useless to speculate.  Time will tell.

Stay tuned.  Stay on your knees.  - DT

David, Your Parish will be in

David,

Your Parish will be in my prayers today. I praise God for your Parish and for our fellow Anglicans in San Diego who faithfully proclaim the Gospel of Christ weekly in their respective Churches. God's sovereignty is bigger than a judge, a gaggle of lawyers representing a "church" (the term "church" used quite loosely when describing the plaintiffs) or a building made of stone and drywall. May God be with you and your parish. Know that there are thousands upon thousands of your brothers and sisters standing beside you all through this.

Well, it doesn't look so good

Well, it doesn't look so good after all for the people of St. Annes or Holy Trinity tonight.  Diocese may get two more empty buildings out of this, but in legal world, it's never really over until the fat lady sings.

Details forthcoming....
