APA's Diocese of the West Seeking Intercommunion with REC and Common Cause

An important letter from APA Bishop Richard Boyce, which signals an important move toward alliance with Common Cause Partners.  APA as a whole has, so far, chosen not to join Common Cause.  The Reformed Episcopal Church (REC), on the other hand, is a CC partner, which should allow priests and parishes within Bishop Boyce's Diocese of the West to participate in the bespoke North American Anglican Province.

Bishop Boyce will be in San Diego visiting Fr. Keith Acker and the congregation of Blessed Trinity Alpine later this month (sept 08).

Bold emphases mine.

The Rt. Rev. Richard J. Boyce OCD

September 4, 2008

To all of my brothers in Christ of the Diocese of the West,

I greet you in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.

The lessons we have learned from GAFCON and Lambeth tell us plainly that change is in the wind. We have all served as Anglican ‘wannabees’ over the years. Already a new Province is being created for those of Orthodox Anglican truth and we will be a part of that.

For ten years the APA and the REC have been in communion with each other. Our Clergy are serving in the others Parishes. Our Communicants are worshipping in each others Parishes. Our Bishops are able to function Episcopally with each other.

We have requested that the REC receive the DOW into that intercommunion we have shared for these many years that we might work as one to bring the Gospel to all who are in need. Since the APA and REC remain in Communion with each other, we will continue to be in Communion with our brothers and sisters in the APA. We will keep you informed as we move ahead.

In the peace of Christ,

+Richard +Win
Bishop Ordinary Bishop Coadjutor

Hi David,

As a member of Alpine Anglican, I would like to invite you to church, and picnic after, on the 14th of September. Would be great to see you again, and you could speak Bishop Boyce, also. best regards, Dru Arnold

Thank you for the invitation, Dru.  I was really sorry to have to miss Bishop Boyce--especially w/ all the news of late.  Being that it was feast of the Holy Cross today, I had altar duties at sub deacon for high mass.

Send me an email write-up.  We'd love to hear what the good bishop had to say on this, his first visit to you as an REC bishop.
